Is It Time To Break Up?

Are you usually happy every day?  Do you feel fulfilled in almost all areas of your life? Are you excited about your future and what possibilities lie ahead?  If your honest answer is no… then maybe it’s time to break up with some things in your life.

At times, you may feel attached to people or behaviours in your life, and believe without them, you’d be missing something that you might need. Thinking this way is often caused by fear. Maybe you hold on to things because you fear that losing them could end in disaster. So instead, you pursue things that you assume will make you happier. We often tend to think that more means better, but that’s not the case! If you feel this has been your reality for a while, maybe you should try something different. Maybe you should try breaking up. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Break ups are letting go of what isn’t making you happy everyday and, in return, making room for something that will.

I’m challenging you to take a good look at the different things, people and habits currently in your life. Which ones are bringing you closer to where you want to be, and which are holding you back? Who is lifting you up and making you feel like you can do anything, and who is putting limits on your happiness or casting judgment on whether you are good enough?  Do you have a habit that you know is hurting your health or potential? If so, it’s your time to break up and move on!

Almost two years ago, I was at a stage in my life where I had to decide what to break up with as well. I knew I had potential, and knew what made my happy and excited. I also knew I was holding onto things that were limiting me from doing better. I was working in the bar scene, going out every weekend, and eating food that made me feel awful. I remember it was July 2, 2013 and I was super hung-over from going out for Canada Day. I was dehydrated, sick and tired of feeling this way. I had eaten greasy, unhealthy food all day and knew that I was hurting my body. I couldn’t get anything done because I felt so bad and was taking it out on myself. I had enough of this lifestyle. That day, I decided I was going to stop going out, stop drinking, and stop eating meat, animal products, processed foods and gluten.

That is a lot to quit cold turkey, but I did it! I was so committed to my new lifestyle and I started to see results right away. It is also how Sammi’s Secrets came to life! On my new plant- based, vegan lifestyle, I lost the extra weight I’d been adding on because of my past choices. I felt amazing, energetic, alive and full of purpose!  Everyone was asking me what I was doing differently. I had 20-30 messages a day from people wanting to know more. So, I decided to start a blog so that I could share my “secrets” with anyone who wanted to know them.  This ‘break up’ led me to a path where I discovered more of my passions and pursued them. I now have a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition, I’ve been traveling to new places, and my businesses are growing around the world!

You owe it to yourself to genuinely decide what in your life is good and what needs to go. Your goal should be to bring happiness into each day for yourself and for others. When you follow your dreams and let go of the negatives things in life, you free yourself from the “what-ifs”. It’s better to have a life of “oh wells” than “what-ifs”! It takes courage, but breaking up with what isn’t working for you will increase your self-value and inspire those around you who need to do the same.

It is ok to be a little bit selfish and do what’s best for you. Once you have figured out your ideal path and built yourself up to be full, your happiness and love will spill over the edges to help others find the same. You are in charge of your own life and your own happiness, not anyone else’s. Spend time with people who love you and believe in you and your dreams. Focus on your passion and have courage to pursue what makes you genuinely happy. Don’t be afraid to break up with the things you don’t need anymore. Life goes on and it gets better when you show yourself some love and care.

So I hope you feel ready to break up and move on from anything that doesn’t build you up and make you feel amazing. It might be different things for you; perhaps a friendship, relationship, job, or even a tired hair colour. Whatever it is, find a better way that makes you smile, because you deserve it!
